...what we do

Workshops
St. Elmo Village's children and adult workshops represent a unique educational concept in which the uninhibited, creative freedom of people is not directed or taught, but they are merely given the materials necessary to explore the world of color and form.

People visit the Village weekly for creative workshops.

Children are afforded the opportunity to develop their creativity throughout the week. The Saturday workshop was born when children who were observed throwing rocks at paintings were given paint brushes and encouraged to create paintings of their own. The Saturday workshops include painting, drawing, and hand drumming, which are scheduled from 11:00am to 1:00pm; and computer graphics and photography workshops are from 1:30pm to 3:30pm.

At various times the Village has offered a variety of workshops including mural painting workshops, photography workshops, hand drumming and drama.

The 2012 summer children's art workshops will run from Wednesday, June 20th through Wednesday, August 15th. Workshops start at 11:00am and finish up at 1:00pm.

Outreach / In-School Instruction

Throughout the year, members of the Village fulfill speaking engagements in area schools, visiting the children in their classrooms and informing and advising educators of the importance of creative arts to the school district curricula. Some of the other outreach programs include workshops at the OASIS Senior Center and other community organizations.

Tours / Field Trips

St. Elmo Village is a frequent destination for school children from the Los Angeles Unified School District, groups of senior citizens, college students, Our Authors Club, as well as individual family groups and tourists from other countries.

Field Trips: The children venture forth from the Village to visit museums, historical sites, galleries and other sites of interest, thus expanding their horizons and knowledge beyond the boundaries of the immediate neighborhood. The Village children and staff also go on nature hikes with the Sierra Club to local reserves and national parks.
